Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad
Billy
Jones was a railroad man. He was 13 when he started
working for Southern Pacific Railroad. Billy’s
hobby was working on his project of love for the children
of Santa Clara Valley. In 1941 he started construction
of his own railroad on his ranch at the corner of Daves
Avenue and Winchester Blvd. in Los Gatos. Completed
in 1943, the first round trip train ride on his orchard
was completed. For the next 25 years, children of all
ages in the Santa Clara Valley enjoyed the fun of riding
behind a real steam engine.
Following his death, the train was brought to Oak Meadow
Park in Los Gatos, California. On July 26, 1970 Billy
Jones Wildcat Railroad was opened.
