a life-long resident of California, I would like to
say I’ve seen it all but I know I have not. There
is so much to see and do in this beautiful state I call
home. The following is a list of only a few ideas of
places to go and things to do for a romantic California
weekend getaway.
Catalina Island - Is 26 miles from
Los Angeles. You can get a week's worth of relaxation
in a couple of days on Catalina Island.
Death
Valley - The summer temperatures reach
over 130F. Winter is much cooler and a good time to
explore the wonders of the California desert.
Hearst Castle – Take a tour
of William Randolph Hearst's home on the California
Coast.
Hollywood
- Visit Hollywood Boulevard and Rodeo Drive, Universal
Studios is a great source of entertainment as well.
Monterey - The Monterey Peninsula
has something for everyone. Take a scenic drives in
Pacific Grove, visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium or go
shopping in Carmel.
Napa Valley – Spend a day in
the wine country touring the many vineyards and producers
of fine California
wine.
North Lake Tahoe – North Lake
Tahoe is paradise for skiers. Visit historic Virginia
City or you can do a little gambling in Reno.
Santa Barbara – Many refer to
Santa Barbara as California's Riviera. Santa Barbara
is nestled between mountains and ocean. Stroll along
the beautiful coast and picnic on the beach.
Santa Cruz - Santa Cruz is not just
another beach town. It's a great destination for a weekend
getaway. Santa Cruz is the home of many artists and
those who love to surf.
San Francisco – San Francisco
Cable Cars are moving national landmarks. They can take
you on a fascinating San Francisco tour. See Chinatown,
the Museum of Modern Art, Asian Art Museum, Exploratorium,
Legion of Honor, California Academy of Sciences &
Steinhart Aquarium or take a Blue & Gold Fleet Bay
Cruise. Shopping and dining on the waft can also be
very exhilarating.
San Diego - San Diego is one of California's
most popular tourist destinations. It has something
to offer almost everyone from ballet to Seaworld, to
theatre to zoos. Take a Harbor Cruise or visit Coronado
Island. Go to Tijuana for south of the boarder shopping.
Walk the shoreline around Scripps Park in La Jolla.
Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park
- Home to the three largest trees on earth! The glacier-carved
granite canyon rivals Yosemite Valley.
Sonoma County - California's "other"
wine country. Sonoma is laid-back and a place for leisure.
Taste wine, have a picnic and relax!
Yosemite National Park - One of the
nation's oldest, and most popular, national parks.
